Filing a Petition for a Hearing

First, a petitioner must receive a denial of a building permit application from the Building Department or a zoning determination signed by the Building Inspector. Then, a petitioner may file for relief from strict adherence to the requisite section(s) of the Bridgewater Zoning Ordinance.

All completed petitions, accompanied by the necessary filing fees and a fee for the legal notice made out to the Enterprise, should be filed no later than three (3) weeks before the date of the hearing.

Applications

Bridgewater uses an online permitting system for all applications to be reviewed by the Planning & Zoning Board. All new applicants must first register. Please call the CED Department at 508-697-0950 for assistance.

Forms

Per MGL c. 40A, all abutters within a 300' radius must be notified of the public hearing. A certified abutters list application shall be filed directly with the Tax Assessor's Office with the required filing fee. Please allow 7–10 business days for processing. The abutters' listing must be forwarded to the Zoning offices, and postage due must be calculated. A check made out to the Town of Bridgewater in the correct amount (see fee schedule on the last page of the Petition for Hearing Application) must be submitted.
