The Town of Bridgewater is actively working to improve water system reliability, address well production challenges, and support long-term water quality needs.
Use this dashboard to view the current system status, active improvement projects, drought information, water restrictions, and helpful resident resources.
The Town of Bridgewater is currently under a water supply emergency due to reduced well production and elevated levels of iron, manganese, and PFAS. These conditions have impacted overall water availability and system storage.
A reminder to residents: For the duration of the Emergency Declaration, the Town shall maintain and enforce a mandatory total ban on all nonessential outdoor water use. Residents are asked to conserve water and follow all current outdoor watering restrictions.

Hydrant Flushing Update
The Bridgewater Water Supply has made significant progress with the hydrant flushing program, completing the majority of the system over the past month. Effective immediately, flushing operations are suspended due to recent emergency demands, water main breaks, and increased seasonal water usage.
Pausing flushing at this time will help maintain system pressure and storage capacity as water demand increases heading into the summer months, while the Town continues to await the Plymouth Street Treatment System's becoming operational.
Discolored Water
Residents may continue to experience temporary brown or discolored water. If this occurs, please run your cold water tap for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the water runs clear.
If the water does not clear, please contact the Water Department at 508-697-0910 or waterdepartment@bridgewaterma.org.
Why These Improvements Are Needed
Bridgewater’s water system relies on several groundwater wells. In recent years, some wells have experienced reduced production or increased levels of PFAS, iron, and manganese.
These improvements are designed to restore well capacity, improve water quality, and strengthen overall system reliability.
Water Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about Bridgewater’s drinking water, water quality, PFAS, and where to get more information.
Is my water safe to drink?
Yes. Your drinking water is safe and continues to meet all state and federal health standards.
The Town is actively making improvements to the water system to ensure long-term reliability and quality.
Water quality is tested regularly, and there are currently no boil water notices in place.
Why does the water sometimes appear discolored?
Discoloration is typically caused by naturally occurring minerals, most commonly iron, that can become stirred up in the water pipes during changes in water flow.
If the issue continues, contact the Water Department at 508-697-0910 or waterdepartment@bridgewaterma.org.
What are PFAS?
PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals used in products such as non-stick cookware and firefighting foam. They can persist in the environment and may be found in water.
