Winter Storm Update - 11:45AM

We appreciate everyone’s patience following the unprecedented snowstorm that impacted many of us in southeastern Massachusetts yesterday. Here is an update for our community.

First, National Grid has been working throughout the evening on power restoration. The latest information we have received is that approximately 16 people in the Town are without power. National Grid is still working to restore power as quickly as possible.

Although our Highway Department crews, using Town vehicles and private contractors, worked continuously from early Sunday night through late last night, the storm has proved very challenging. One of the modern challenges facing many municipalities, including ours, is the lack of heavy equipment available from private contractors, particularly during peak demand. As a result, we are often left relying on lighter-duty vehicles to supplement plow operations, and the severity of this recent storm has complicated our efforts, as many of our regional partners are dealing with the same situation.

However, our priority today is to ensure every public roadway is cleared. Once that is accomplished, we will next focus on widening intersections and snow removal. In the coming days, we will switch to sidewalks and general clean-up. Although, that work will be extremely difficult due to the accumulated snow amounts.

I would like to thank all the plow operators and our first responders who worked tirelessly throughout this snowstorm and will continue to do so as we recover. Please stay off the roads, so that our public safety teams can do the work that is required, and we can expedite storm-related clean-up.

We thank you for your continued support and collaboration.

If you have any concerns about your street, you can contact the Highway Department at 508-697-0931.
