Opioid Settlement Funds

Massachusetts communities, including the Town of Bridgewater, are receiving funds from statewide opioid-related legal settlements. These funds are intended to support prevention, treatment, recovery, harm reduction, and other local efforts related to the opioid crisis.

About the Settlement

In 2022, Massachusetts joined national opioid settlements with several pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and related companies. A portion of the settlement funding is being distributed to cities and towns to help address the impact of the opioid epidemic at the local level.

Settlement funds must generally be used for opioid-related purposes, including programs and services that support residents, families, and communities affected by substance use disorder.

How Funds May Be Used

  • Substance use prevention and education
  • Treatment and recovery support services
  • Harm reduction initiatives
  • Support for individuals and families affected by substance use disorder
  • Community-based programs that address opioid-related impacts

Additional Information

The Town will provide updates as information becomes available regarding local funding, planning, eligible uses, and related programs.
