About the Cultural Council

The Cultural Council supports local arts and culture by reviewing and distributing arts lottery funds and other available resources while promoting the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences in Bridgewater.

Purpose

The Cultural Council determines the distribution of arts lottery funds and other funds available to the Council. It may also conduct activities that promote and encourage the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences.

The Cultural Council operates pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 10, Section 58 and serves as an advisory and ministerial committee of the Town.

Council Structure & Appointments

The Cultural Council consists of a minimum of five and a maximum of twenty-two members.

Members may not serve more than two consecutive terms in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 10, Section 58. Members should have demonstrated scholarship or creativity in, or distinguished service to, the arts, humanities, or interpretive sciences.

The Council annually elects a Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.
