About the Historical Commission
The Historical Commission works to preserve, protect, and promote Bridgewater's historical and archaeological resources. The Commission researches places of historical significance, documents historic sites and buildings, and works with local and state organizations to support historic preservation.
The Historical Commission serves as an advisory and ministerial committee of the Town.
Commission Responsibilities
- Survey and maintain information on historical sites and buildings throughout Bridgewater.
- Research places of historical and archaeological significance.
- Work with the State Archaeologist and Massachusetts Historical Commission when appropriate.
- Recommend measures to protect and preserve historical and archaeological resources.
- Evaluate the repair, reconstruction, and protection needs of historical landmarks.
- Coordinate and cooperate with local historical organizations and public commissions.
- Assist with public historical programs, events, and educational efforts.
- Make recommendations to the Town Manager and Town Council regarding matters of historic preservation.
